The present jack has acctually been in use since the 1930's.
Acordning to Kari K. Laurla: "Suomalainen päällikkyysmerkki, Collegium Heraldicum Fennicum, Vantaa 1986", the jack was adopted at the same time as the rank flags were changed, i.e. on the 18th August, 1938.
